The Theory and Practical courses are held in Manchester and are led by Coach Tony Morgan.

Our classes are kept small, up to a maximum of six, to increase your learning capacity and reduce that feeling of being overwhelmed. 

Theory Section

Boiler Repair and Heating Systems. Duration – 4 Days

Includes:

  • People skills: How to serve your customer
  • Boiler Parts Familiarisation: Detailed explanation of all major boiler parts and their operation 
  • Multimeter Functions: Description and explanation of multimeter usage and application 
  • Boiler Types: Detailed explanation of the different types of gas and electric boilers
  • Heating Types: Description and explanation of different types of heating systems, eg open vent, sealed systems, combi systems, thermal storage and much, much more.
  • Heating Controls: A detailed breakdown of the different types of heating controls, including their functionalities
  • Cylinder and Controls: Detailed explanation of, eg direct and indirect, vented and unvented cylinders. Also, the different types of controls associated with them.

Electric Boilers and Unvented Cylinder

Sequence, Operation and Fault Finding with Boiler Parts Removal and Replacement

  • Top panel, pump, automatic air vent and expansion vessel
  • Front panels, user interface panel, fascia panel, PCB and thermostats
  • Primary pressure release valve, temperature pressure relief valve, automatic bypass, immersion heaters and filling loop,  
  • Primary electric flow boiler, primary sensor and overheat thermostat

  • Front panels, user interface panel, PCB and thermostats

Heating Controls

Includes Honeywell Y and S Plan heating controls familiarisation, and the differences between both systems:

  • Common faults
  • Wiring techniques

Multimeter Familiarisation and Testing

Theory and Practical Section covers:

  • Earth Continuity
  • Short Circuits
  • Resistance to Earth 
  • Polarity Test
  • Using a Multimeter to check switches and thermostats
  • Using a Multimeter to test for resistance on boiler parts
  • Wiring technique
  • Learning Confirmation Technique 
  • Role Play System – Reality Situational Scenarios
